Long Rides and Good Attitudes / and public ed

Today we road about 80 miles and it was great…..The roads were as usual, needing to be better maintained; there are so many tires on the shoulder where we ride (WeRide..80…today). The wind was at our backs, and the clouds were a solution to the hot sun. Now the uphill climbs…WowWee…there is nothing like going uphill on a bicycle when you have a hundred pound load…. Now here is the attitude, good attitude, we made sure to keep focused, to smile, to appreciate this beautiful Earth, to be kind to all those we met…..and we gave each other ‘high-fives’…. Public education, well it seems this ride is needed. There is so much work we need to do…everywhere and together.

Education as Public: What would and If ?

What would education look like if it were all to be private? What would education look like if everyone were give a voucher? What would education look like if all schools were chartered? What would education look like if we “voted” to have companies (Target-Walmart-Chevron-Microsoft-Budweiser) take over? What do we (all of us) want as a collective? If we want education to remain public? If we want ALL people to benefit from public education? If we want equity? If we believe we can make changes for the better?……..Well then, lets fund public education as the priority it ought to be.

A Teacher

What does it mean to be a teacher? What is the job of the teacher? Who accounts for the work of a teacher? Are teachers responsible for student outcomes? If yes, where does home and community fit? If no, why not? Are teachers paid for the work they do? Who should be or not be a teacher? …..just a few questions I thought to post today.

Hot Sore Happy Tired Motivated

Folks…. Let me tell you these past few days have been….well they have been so many things that I have no idea of where to start. Let me put it this way…..I have fallen, those dang clip-in pedals. The trucks will literally blow you across the road. My thighs are so sore that touching them is painful….The people we are meeting are GREAT, there are so many wonderful folks; and they are all so into our ride, and reason for riding. Wellllll….its time for us to get on the road; gotta ride before it is 100 degrees. Hear from us soon
